Edward Burtynsky (CA, 1955) lives and works in à Toronto. He studied photography and media in Canada and also obtained a degree in graphic art. In 1885 he founded “Toronto Image Works”, a laboratory and center for film and digital photography. Burtynsky’s work is known for its photos of industrial landscapes, which have garnered him world fame and won him numerous awards. He has exhibited in over fifty museums and his work is part of more than 60 public and private collections, in particular at MoMA (New York), the Victoria and Albert Museum (New York), and the Reina Sofia Museum (Madrid). The sale of the Natural Order project enabled a gift of $200 000 to be made to the Ontario Museum of Fine Arts (Toronto) and the Ryerson Image Centre (Toronto) to create a fund dedicated to the acquisition of works by Canadian artists. The Natural Order series is also the subject of a book of the same name, published by Steidl in 2020.
