Still Life? - PBF04 / Tara Sellios
15 November to 21 December 2019
Through carnal, morbid but also seductive still lives, Tara Sellios aspires to make apparent the restlessness of a life that is knowingly so temporary and vulnerable.
Tara Sellios strives to create images that elegantly articulate the totality of existence, focusing heavily life’s underlying instinctive, carnal nature in the face of fragility and impermanence.
The concept of morality in relation to mortality has possessed a significant presence within the history of art, ranging from religious imagery to the work of the Dutch vanitas painters. Manifesting melancholic, as these artists did, Tara Sellios’ images force the viewer to look, despite its apparent grotesque and morbid nature. Through these images, she aspires to make evident the restlessness of a life that is knowingly so temporary and vulnerable.
