Album intime
Jean Claude Wouters

The keyword that typifies Jean Claude Wouters’ work is delicacy.

Following the presentation of his “discreet” portraits (silver print/baryted/gradual erasing of photo transparencies by light) during the PhotoBrussels Festival 02, Jean Claude Wouters unveils an opposite aspect of his work with Album Intime. This series of photographs contrasts perfectly with his previous effort, characterized by slowness, technique, and precision. These images nonetheless convey the same sensitivity – the keyword that typifies Jean Claude Wouters’ work is delicacy. « I wanted to do the exact opposite: I opted for sex, colour, plasticity, and computer work as items. I searched for “accessible to all” nudes on the Internet, photos posted by ordinary people, amateurs ». The titles of the works, borrowed from Spinoza’s Ethics, transcend these raw images. For the philosopher, “body” and “mind” are one and participate in the creation as a whole. The images of the Album Intime also attest to a fascination that Jean Claude Wouters has for the carnality of the body.

Jean Claude Wouters was born in 1958, in Brussels. He lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.
