Is the city still a dream? - PBF03 /
Pieter Dumoulin

16 November to 20 December 2018

Pieter Dumoulin, through his feature film Etangs Noirs, shows us the link between photography and cinema. An urban return trip between the two media.

Pieter Dumoulin needs to work with photographs. The images do not exist simply by chance, instead, they form the basis for his research for his film and that is a way for him to establish himself in a world that is already saturated with images. The photographs exhibited (for the first time) during the festival tie in with his last film Etangs Noirs (the title refers to the name of a Metro station). It takes place in the Metro and the Cité Modèle in Brussels. Pieter Dumoulin has chosen a quotation from Italo Calvino to describe this series of photos: “Cities, like dreams, are made of desires and fears, even if the thread of their discourse is secret, their rules are absurd, their perspectives deceitful, and everything conceals something else”.

Pieter Dumoulin is born in 1989, in Mombassa, Kenya. Lives and works between Ghent and Brussels.
