Ruud van Empel (1958, Breda) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Sint Joost in the seventies, and started out working as a designer for television programmes in the eighties.
As he became skilled in photographic editing and collages, Ruud van Empel’s international reputation took off in 2006 with his series World, Moon and Venus, on display in New York. Since that time, he has exhibited all over the world including the FoMu in Antwerp, the MoPA in San Diego (USA), the Groninger Museum (NL) and the Fotografiska Museum (SE). In 2020, after his solo show at Hangar, he has two exhibitions planned, one in the Vincent van Gogh House (Zundert, NL) and another at the Stedelijk Museum (Breda, NL) in 2022. Today, he lives and works in Amsterdam.
